The 11-Year-Old Who Wants To Be America’s First Lesbian President

ella.jpeg

Ella Briggs, an 11-year-old Connecticut resident, became her state’s first openly gay “kid governor” in January ― and she’s aiming to one day have national and even global impact.

She’s already so invested in public service, she said she would love to become America’s “first lesbian president”.

Still, the road to living authentically hasn’t been easy. Ella has said she was harassed at the public school she attended in East Hampton, Connecticut, after she first identified as a lesbian. In third and fourth grade, she said her classmates ostracized her and refused to sit next to her in class.

“I think they were just scared of me,” she told the Post. “They were afraid to touch me.”

When she told a substitute teacher that she identified as gay, Ella said, the teacher told her that subject wasn’t “school appropriate.”

“It really hurt my feelings,” she told the Courant. “I cried in the bathroom and I don’t want kids to feel like that because like I already didn’t feel like I fit in at that school.”

Serbian lesbian mothers – the closet and legal rights

Serbian Premier Ana Brnabic

Serbian society is unfamiliar with gay couples who have children. It is therefore rare. Apart from the legal obstacles, it is also practically impossible. Lesbian couples who do not want to or are unable to find a donor in their own circle must go abroad because there are no sperm banks in Serbia. For gay men it is completely impossible, because only married couples can adopt and same-sex marriage is not recognized. That does not mean that there are no gays and lesbians with children, but it is almost always hidden from the outside world. They lead a life like that of Natasa.
(Translated)

Indonesian university shuts down student news site over lesbian love story

Suaru USU newsroom (Photo: Provided)

University officials in Indonesia this month ordered a student news website shut down its entire operation after it published a fictional same-sex short story.
They could also face up to 12 years in prison under Indonesia’s draconian pornography law, which forbids anything with ‘salacious content or sexual exploitation that violate the moral values of society’.
The 18 student journalists at North Sumatra University (USU) were given just 48 hours to close the site and vacate the news room.
Publisher and author Yael Stefany Sinaga wrote the 1,000-word story about a woman expressing her love for another young woman.
Titled Everyone Refuses My Presence Near Her, it was published on March 12. The journalists also shared it on social media.

Pasaia, Spain: Lesbian fired for wanting to be a mother

Spain

The LAB union has denounced on Thursday the discriminatory situation that, in their opinion, a lesbian woman in Pasaia suffered from. According to a statement in a media release, a local bar has fired a woman “for wanting to be a mother.” The union explains that “since the company knew two of its workers were a couple, the relationship has been going wrong.” Thus, according to the union, “a few weeks ago, knowing that one of them was undergoing a fertility treatment, they have fired the other worker.”

The lesbian Nazi victims who allegedly did not exist: Elli Smula and Margarete Rosenberg

Ravensbruck Orb design

There are numerous publications on the fate of lesbian women who were imprisoned in the Ravensbrück concentration camp. In the last year, comments by a doctorate in history from Berlin caused a sensation, saying that there is no evidence for the actual detention and a whatsoever designed commemorative ball was thus falsifying the history. The LSVD Berlin-Brandenburg relied on this assessment in their remembrance work for women at the Ravensbrück Concentration Camp Memorial Site. … In the traditions of the ITS in Bad Arolsen, although no original access books of the former concentration camp Ravensbrück have been preserved, a few contemporary copies of these camp books have been partially preserved there. From these are two sides of the present complex of topics of great interest – namely the access list of November 30, 1940 : The admission reason for women numbers 11 and 26 was given as “lesbian”. These women are Elli Smula and Margarete Rosenberg, nee Quednau.

She has found the word “lesbian” that represents her mind on the Internet, but that was not yet common. When I confessed to my parents, they said, “It’s a transient illness,” and her parents also cried or got angry. Then she spent her teens without telling anyone.

China: Lesbian families struggle under patriarchal legal framework

winky

Same-sex marriage is neither legal nor widely accepted in Chinese culture. Even though Shenzhen is seen as a liberal part of China, Xiao Chen and Winky face plenty of intolerance.
They want to send Phoebe and Sarah to day care, but they haven’t been able to obtain a “hukou” — household registration certificate — for the twins. The certificate, widely seen as outdated, determines a child’s access to education, healthcare and social benefits.
Without hukou, Phoebe and Sarah don’t legally exist in China.

Shelton bought a Groupon for dance lessons at Dave Thompson’s Prestige Ballroom in Des Peres, Missouri.
But when they tried to redeem the Groupon, Thompson said that they couldn’t take lessons there because they’re a same-sex couple.
“We don’t have accommodations for same-sex couples to dance,” the women said Thompson said, adding that the straight people in the room would feel “awkward.”

Argentina: lesbian singled out for smoking after kissing partner to face court

Argentina

The event that took place occurred around noon on Monday, October 2, 2017, when Mariana (25) went to accompany her wife Rocio Girat (23) to take a bus to the Constitución station in downtown Buenos Aires. When they arrived, it started to rain and hail, so the girls took refuge in the subway station. Mariana lit a cigarette and, according to witnesses, was not the only one. But while he was smoking, he did something else: he kissed Rocío. That was enough so that, in the midst of all the smokers, Metrovías employee José María Pérez approached only her and told her that smoking was prohibited there. She rephrased: she told him there was no sign to indicate that and remarked the fact that she was not the only person doing it. The employee of Metrovías looked for Jonatan Rojo, an officer of the City Police, with whom Mariana kept the same discussion in an increasingly elevated tone. From the beginning, the conversation with Rojo was violent: he said “kid” and he treated her as a male. “Mariana reacted to this situation and reproached them that the only reason they were reprimanding her and not the rest was because they were two women kissing each other. There were other people smoking and other people kissing, but they were the only lesbians, “said Teszkiewicz.

Lesbians: victims of censorship of the giants of the web

Lesbian google search

The experience is striking. Type the word “lesbian” on Google and see how the overwhelming majority of the results are pornographic content. However, this term is only defined by the “Larousse” as “relating to female homosexuality”. “With the Association of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans and Intersex Journalists, we’ve started discussions with Google, they know there’s a problem,” journalist Alice Coffin reports. Spokesperson of the European Lesbian * Conference (EL * C), she explains having already had unpleasant surprises:”We have observed that mail filters of our recipients, including those who have Gmail, classify many e- emails from the EL * C, lambdas and newsletters, in spam … ”

Lesbian Mothers and the Serbian Government

Every lesbian kiss is a revolution

European Lesbian* Conference has been following closely the lesbian Serbian news lately. As the lesbian Prime Minister Ana Brnabic and her partner were expecting a child, our Strategy Dykerector Dragana Todorovic gave several interviews to the media to explain how very peculiar this situation was.

The child is now born and this birth led to the burst of lesbophobic comments. One of the opposition leaders even said «The children are hungry in this country and the son of the Prime ministre can feed on four boobs». Lepa Mladjenovic, a legend of lesbian activism, sent us  a text to react to this news. Her words on the situation of lesbian mothers and the lesbophobia in Serbia are very powerful. We thank her very much for sharing this with all of you, and wish you all a great reading.
