Italy: lesbian teenager attacked

L2L Italy

The story of Lisa, a 16 year old lesbian from Turin, was told and published by the Pressenza press agency.

Lisa says she didn’t pay attention to that man right away but at the Porta Nuova metro exit he began to rail against her.  “I didn’t think it could be directed at me because I wasn’t doing anything wrong,” she said, until the man approached and grabbed her by the arm. “He forced me to turn around, then he put his face almost against mine shouting that I was dressed as a boy and I sucked” she continued, “shouting many times ‘bloody lesbian’. Then suddenly I got punched in the face and everything went black. I doubled over. ”

And again: “When I bent down he started throwing punches at my side. Then because I do boxing, I put the fear aside and threw a punch and a hook at him”. “As soon as I saw him on the floor, even though I was sick and couldn’t see from one eye, I started running towards the bus” she continued, “I just wanted to get away from that place as quickly as possible”.
Although it was a school and work day and it was rush hour, eight o’clock in the morning, nobody intervened.

Nobody.

Nessuno.

Chile: two soldiers attack lesbian couple for rejecting sexual advances

Chile Soldier abuse of lesbians

The Homosexual Integration and Liberation Movement (MOVILH) denounced on Tuesday that on October 12, two lesbian women – aged 21 and 22 – were harassed and assaulted for their sexual orientation by two subjects who, according to the accusation, carried a Military Identification Card  (TIM).

The Movilh complaint claims those responsible for the attack were identified as Jorge and Omar Rivera Alarcón.

“After one of the subjects approached the couple and repeatedly annoyed one of the women with sexual advances, the other asked him to stop. Instead the attacker, along with the second aggressor who appeared with a baseball bat, began to beat them with their fists and the baseball bat while yelling at them ‘Sissies, if I want them, I catch them and I take their dyke pussies”, said Rolando Jiménez, MOVILH representative.

The MOVILH spokesman added that when one of the women fell to the ground, they continued to beat her, at which time police officers appeared and stopped the attack.

U.S: Catholic Schools Keep Kids Away From Lesbian Astronaut

anne.jpeg

Respected religious institutions drive homophobia in the United States. They teach it in both churches and schools. Three Catholic schools in the Spokane area just handed kids a vivid object lesson in how to stigmatize LGBTQ people. While diocese leaders are being publicly coy, teachers, parents, and students all know that a trip to see NASA astronaut Anne McClain was cancelled because she’s married to a woman.

Lesbian creates Argentinian hate crime map of lesbophobia

The lesbophobia hate crime map

Every March 7, Lesbian Visibility Day is celebrated in Argentina. The date was chosen in memory of 27 year old Natalia “La Pepa” Gaitán, who was killed by her girlfriend’s stepfather on March 7 2010.

The story of “La Pepa” is a standard for Argentine lesbian activism because it showed how far hate can go. Today, her smiling face is stamped on flags and t-shirts.

Paula E. (as she is identified online) is a Social Work student who has been working in the systems area of a company for 10 years. Lesbian and an activist, last year she noticed that many cases of violence against her community went unnoticed in the media and were somewhat forgotten by activism as well.

“I also saw that among heterosexual people there is a perception that lesbians do not suffer violence, that they do not violate us and that because of the Argentinian laws, we have no more problems,” she explains.

But changes in laws are not enough to end the violence.

Paula knows it well: all the time, stories come from other lesbians who are assaulted, discriminated against or verbally abused.

“That’s why I came up with the idea of the map, to keep track and help make the cases visible,” she tells us.

U.S: Lesbian music teacher outed to her bosses and then fired

monica-toro-lisciandro.jpeg

On October 2, administrators at Covenant Christian School in Palm Beach, Florida, summoned part-time musical theater teacher Monica Toro Lisciandro to tell her that someone had anonymously called the school accuse her of being in a relationship with a woman, attending a Pride festival, and hosting an LGBTQ group in her private acting studio.

“Well, it’s true,” Lisciandro replied. Soon after, the school fired her even though she had taught there for the last three years and was in the middle of directing the musical You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown. The school then informed parents via letter that she’d no longer be teaching due to “personal reasons.”

Italy: Lesbian couple’s car vandalised at home

civitavecchia lesbophobia

Pantano area, Civitavecchia (in the province of Rome). When they woke, Monica and Romina discovered that their car had been vandalised in the night, with two homophobic phrases. Monica and Romina are a lesbian couple, who were born and raised in Civitavecchia, and it is in their city that they decided to live together. They have been in a relationship for over 10 years, and together with their 3 children, they are a beautiful rainbow family. But tonight someone decided to have fun writing two highly offensive phrases about their car.

“Lecca vongole” [clam lickers] is clearly written. The second sentence is written in Romanian, reports Fabrizio Marrazzo, spokesman for the Gay Centre. These two slang terms are commonly used to refer [pejoratively] to lesbian women.

U.S: After Being Beaten and Raped, Lesbian Asylum Seeker Faces Deportation

deport.jpg

A 20-year-old Ugandan woman is at risk of deportation after attempting to seek asylum in the United States.

According to a recent story by Rolling Stone, the woman, identified only as Margaret, traveled from Uganda after coming out as a lesbian. As a result of her being public about her sexuality, she was “raped and repeatedly beaten.” Margaret reached the Juárez, Mexico–El Paso, Texas border after a lengthy and dangerous trek spanning several months.

Although Margaret didn’t have her documentation — or any personal belongings, since they all had been stolen while she was on the Mexican side of the border — she successfully was able to enter the U.S. last month. However, on Wednesday she was told devastating news.

“U.S. officials had determined that, despite being a lesbian from a country in which it is illegal to be one, and despite having already suffered beatings and a rape, Margaret had no ‘credible fear’ or any way of knowing what would happen if she were sent back,” Rolling Stone reports.

An appeal has been filed and Margaret may receive an immigration judge’s ruling as early as next week.

U.S: Two lesbians were the first “out” people to be elected to office, rather than Harvey Milk

ELECTED-ELAINE-SCREEN-CAP.jpg

Yes, this is a picture of the first out gay person elected to a major political office.

It is a photo of Elaine Noble, elected to the Massachusetts House of Representatives in November, 1974, three years before Milk was elected to the San Francisco Board of Supervisors, and, actually, she was the second out elected official.

The first was 21-year-old Kathy Kozachenko elected to the Ann Arbor, Michigan, City Council in April, 1974. Prior to her election, council members Nancy Wechsler and Jerry DeGrieck had come out in office and convinced the majority of the council to vote to add “sexual orientation” to Ann Arbor’s antidiscrimination ordinance.

Italy: lesbian targeted in hospital workplace

Lecco lesbofobica

Sabrina, an employee of the Manzoni Hospital in Lecco, had already been targeted by homophobes, who had attacked her for her lesbianism. In recent days, however, they escalated with “Get out of here, lesbian” appearing on the door of her locker.

“Women are the ones who say the worst things to me. And my coworkers are the most ferocious. Someone had already told me that I was not welcome in the locker room. On September 23rd I found the writing. For two days I didn’t go in the locker room, and after that I then only stayed a few minutes, eyes down,  changing quickly so as not to make anyone uncomfortable.”

Although Sabrina has every right to use the women’s locker room, she always tried not to make her colleagues uncomfortable, hurriedly changing to get out as soon as possible. But after this, she stopped being intimidated.

Chile: Lesbian sues University of Las Americas for lesbophobic harassment and dismissal

Chile

A professional and faculty head filed a lawsuit against the University of Las Americas (UDLA) for harassment and dismissal due to her sexual orientation.

With the sponsorship of the Homosexual Integration and Liberation Movement (Movilh), they detailed that “the affected woman had entered the UDLA to work in 2013 and a year later she assumed a role as faculty head for one of her areas. Her performance was always evaluated positively, until she confided to one of her superiors that she was a lesbian”.

Movilh’s lawyer, Monica Arias, said that “due to rumours among few colleagues regarding her sexual orientation, in March 2018 the professional decided to have a confidential conversation with one of her direct heads”.

In relation to this, Arias added that “in this conversation, the boss assured her total discretion, so the professional acknowledged being a lesbian and asked that it not be disclosed. The next day, the personal life of the woman became the knowledge of a large part of university officials”.

In addition she started experiencing “hostile treatment and harassment” from her boss, which meant for the first time receiving poor performance reviews and being undermined publicly. The lawsuit indicates that, among others, the boss said to the woman that “you are not fit for the position, which is obvious given your condition which we all know”.

The facts were communicated in May 2019 to one of the university deans, who promised to investigate and resolve what happened, but that never happened. On the contrary, the woman ended up being fired weeks later for “business needs” reasons.

U.K: Lesbian kicked unconscious in a spate of homophobic attacks in Birmingham

becky

A gay woman has told how she was kicked unconscious in Birmingham’s Gay Village after confronting a straight couple for ‘touching her inappropriately’.

Rebecca Tebbett was enjoying a night out in the city ‘safe space’ with her friends as she had done many times before when she says the pair approached her.

The 39-year-old lesbian claims the strangers began touching her inappropriately in a pub, but when she made it clear that she wasn’t interested the situation turned violent.

Rebecca said: “I was dancing with my friends, like I have done a million times before when I was approached by a straight couple.

“They started touching me inappropriately and making me feel very uncomfortable. But when I told them to stop, the woman threw her drink over me.

“I then threw the last of the drink I had over her but that was when the man pushed me to the ground shouting homophobic comments at me.

“His friends started kicking me and I ended off unconscious for a few seconds.”

Guatemalan lesbian fled death threats and corrective rape

Marveny Suchite

Marveny Suchite hurriedly left Guatemala last November. She later told an American official that she had received death threats for being a lesbian, according to the formal notes taken by the authorities, to which Reuters had access.

Her mother warned her that there were people who were going to look for her, she told Reuters, explaining that they were “macho.” Suchite fled that day.

She had been beaten and raped before, first by close members of her family and then by strangers in an alley where he was ordered to “stop” being gay, according to the official’s notes that review asylum procedures.

She says she got pregnant after the attack in that alley and then, when she tried to report the rape to the police, they laughed at her.

Australia: Discrimination devastates elderly lesbian

malloy-lesbian-care-1024x614.jpg

The volunteer visitor, who is referred to only as Malloy, could not understand why any of the residents would complain about her, as the facility claimed in October 2017.

She was horrified. An uncomfortable meeting with the nurse manager only added to her hurt.

“She said that I was not allowed to talk about my sexuality with the residents,” Malloy told the aged care royal commission.

The nurse manager said Malloy could continue to visit one male resident because he liked her and another two or three people.

“I was devastated to be told that I was no longer allowed to visit all my usual residents and to hear that they had been complaining about me,” Malloy said on Thursday.

The 84-year-old said she did not hide the fact that she was a lesbian while at the facility, but it was not something she actively spoke to residents about.

International Lesbian Day: Police arrest lesbian activist during Atlanta climate protest

Longtime LGBTQ activist Lorraine Fontana was one of 19 people arrested in a wave of Atlanta protests that demanded action on climate issues.

The protests on Sept. 27 — organized by climate action group Extinction Rebellion Atlanta — began in Buckhead and later moved to Midtown.

“Their idea was to go to some busy intersection in Atlanta and make a point by really messing up the traffic and having people say, ‘What the hell is this?’ and, ‘Who are you?,’” she told Project Q Atlanta.

Fontana (photo), who was a 2013 Atlanta Pride grand marshal, was part of a group that blocked roads at the intersection of 10th and Peachtree. The 72-year-old activist sat in a chair in the road alongside another activist, Daniel Hanley.
