Germany: young group attacks lesbian at Kottbusser Dam

On Sunday evening, a lesbian woman in Berlin-Neukölln was attacked by a group of youths. This was announced by the Berlin police. Erst als Zeugen zu Hilfe geeilt seien, hätten die Angreifer von der 27-Jährigen abgelassen und seien geflüchtet. Die junge Frau gab an, dass sie vermutet, aufgrund ihres äußeren Erscheinungsbildes und ihrer sexuellen Orientierung angegriffen worden zu sein. Sie erlitt leichte Verletzungen am Rumpf und an den Armen. Der Polizeiliche Staatsschutz beim Landeskriminalamt Berlin hat – wie bei vermuteter politisch motivierter Gewalt üblich – die weiteren Ermittlungen übernommen.

Two weeks ago, a Barrington family’s lawn was vandalized. Dozens of plastic forks and a for sale sign with a suicide hotline number and an acronym for go “f—ing kill yourself” written on it were found in the Nelles’s yard on May 31.

Sharon and Scott Nelles said their teenage daughter, who is a lesbian and a student at Barrington High School, was the target of harassment.

Brazil: The lesbian activist who defends LGBT rights in the Amazon

Dani is the indigenous woman who stars in the second chapter of ‘Rainforest Defenders’ and one of the leaders, at only 21 years old, of the Amazonian resistance to the logging, mining and agrarian threat. But Dani is something else. She is one of the first indigenous women to say openly that she is a lesbian and use her visibility to fight for the LGTB cause in the Amazon.

She belongs to one of the communities that live on the banks of the Tapajós River, a mixture of ancient native settlers, indigenous people, descendants of African slaves and whites of Portuguese origin. Communities that are trying to avoid the exploitation and destruction of their land.

Dani’s community has an advantage over the majority, as it is considered [in] a Conservation Reserve, and therefore temporarily protected from indiscriminate extraction. But the young woman still has to fight against the threats that the extensive cultivation of soy exerts on her land and also against the prejudices of her own community, of the evangelist church, religion they profess, and of her own family .(Translated)

Pertenece a una de las comunidades que viven a la vera del río Tapajós, mezcla de antiguos pobladores autóctonos, indígenas, descendientes de esclavos africanos y blancos de origen portugués. Comunidades que están tratando evitar la explotación y destrucción de su tierra.

La comunidad de Dani tiene cierta ventaja frente a la mayoría, pues está considerada como una Reserva de Conservación, y por tanto, protegida temporalmente de la extracción indiscriminada. Pero la joven sigue teniendo que luchar contra las amenazas que el cultivo extensivo de soja ejerce sobre su tierra y también contra los prejuicios de su propia comunidad, de la iglesia evangelista, religión que profesan, y de su propia familia.

Die 21-Jährige versuchte nun wiederum ihrer Lebensgefährtin zu helfen, worauf der Mann sie an einem Handgelenk gepackt und ihr mit der Faust ins Gesicht geschlagen haben soll. Auf die Ankündigung hin, nun die Polizei zu alarmieren, ging der Mann in den Imbiss zurück.

U.K: Bus driver called lesbian cyclist a ‘f**king d*ke’

30-year-old Natalie Lewendon was riding her bicycle home from work in Bristol on Tuesday (11 June) just after 4pm.

As she was heading east on Church road through Lawrence Hill, the traffic slowed down and ‘without warning’, the car she was cycling alongside swung into her path, causing her to brake suddenly.

‘I began to tell the driver off for not looking,’ Lewendon exclusively told Gay Star News. ‘She completely owned that it was her fault and was instantly apologizing to me through the window.’

However, a First Bus bus driver approaching from the opposite direction stopped his bus — holding up traffic — to yell at Lewendon for being in the wrong.

‘I told him that he had no idea what he was talking about and to keep driving,’ Lewendon explained. ‘He continued, leaning out of his window, to berate me at full volume, telling me I was wrong.’

At this point, Lewendon put her bike on the pavement ground and approached the vehicle to get the bus driver’s name and badge number.

‘He continued to abuse me and gave me that “gab gab gab” hand gesture and then finally drove away,’ she said. ‘But not before leering at me and calling me a “fucking dyke”.

‘He dropped his voice while he did it. He knew it was wrong. Lots of people had stopped to watch,’ she said.

Luleki Sizwe Womyn’s Project: Fighting for Lesbian Safety in South Africa

In 2006, South Africa became the fifth country in the world to legalize same-sex marriage. So the country must be naturally progressive about LGBTQ equality, right?

The reality is that homophobia, brutal hate crimes, “corrective rape,” and other anti-LGBTQ violence persist, with profoundly heartbreaking effects. And it makes the fight for basic safety in the queer community risky and incredibly difficult.

But over the past decade, one organization has risen to the challenge. Luleki Sizwe Womyn’s Project (luleki-sizwe.com) is a non-profit devoted to delivering help and support to lesbians who are victims of homophobic attacks and rape across 10 South African township communities.

Five teenagers have been arrested in connection with a homophobic attack on a London bus late last month, London police say.

U.S: Lesbian Flag Excluded From The Sims

Much like many other companies, Electronic Arts Inc joined in on the celebration of Pride month, which is held each June to honor the Stonewall riots of 1969. They did this by adding a handful of flags and other Pride gear to The Sims 4 that players could use in-game to celebrate. While the developers have seemingly always been inclusive for members of the LGBTQ+ communities, they definitely slipped up with the recently revealed addition as out of the 17 flags they included, they left out the lesbian flag.

U.S: Lesbian makeup artist subjected to homophobic abuse

A woman has gone viral on Twitter after she shared a screenshot of homophobic messages from a bride who wanted her to do her wedding makeup.

“How can you be a latina woman and be gay? You do know being gay is a sin correct.
I will pray for you my friend. I’m sorry that you’ve chosen a path that’s going to send you straight to hell. I think you do beautiful makeup but I just can’t have someone who’s gay being a part of my special day.
The wedding is in a church and I don’t want you walking into my church. If you at any chance change your mind about being gay let me know please so I can book you.”
