Brazil: father attacks daughter for suspected lesbian relationship

The attack took place in Campo Grande, inside a residence on Rua Canjerana, in the Coopharabalho neighborhood, MS. According to the police report, a 20-year-old girl was thrown out of the house and beaten by her father, when he realised she might be in a relationship with another woman.

The father, 52 years old, hit the girl’s head against the wall and dragged her daughter by the hair, according to information from Top Mídia . The girl, who had been thrown out of the house, was attacked when she returned to the house to get her belongings.

India: lesbian couple escape after being help captive by family

A lesbian couple were held captive by homophobic family members – until one of the women escaped by leaping over a wall.

According to reports by the Times of India, the couple had a wedding ceremony at Budheshwar temple in Uttar Pradesh, India on 17 November.

Some time after, one of the women told officials, relatives took her and her wife captive, holding them against their will at the family home.

The woman explained that eventually she managed to reach the terrace of the house, leapt over a wall and rushed to police.

Officers attended the house and managed to rescue the other woman, bringing her back to the station and reuniting her with her wife.

Assistant commissioner I P Singh confirmed to the Times of India that the women were held against their will. He added their families are “against their relationship”.

Brazil: teenager attacked by father for being lesbian

The grandmother of a 16-year-old teenager reported the girl’s father after he attacked her granddaughter. The police are investigating what happened and the girl will remain with her grandmother. According to the 9th Regional Interior Police Coordination (Coorpin), the girl said she had also been attacked by her father with a machete “sheath”, a type of case used to preserve the object’s blade.

March 2020 – The annual Movil report showed a 58% increase in allegations and abuses, with the following specific details reported for Chilean lesbians:

  • Abuses reported by lesbians rose 34%
  • 1.54% of the population (221,796 people) are gay or lesbian, 75,000 more people than in 2015.
  • “Rompiendo El Silencio” survey – discrimination has been experienced by the majority of women, such that
    • 75.4% suffered harassment on the street because of their sexual orientation
    • 40.3% of the total who received sexual health advice were forced
    • 68% did not have a pap smear for fear of discrimination.
  • Police abuse and arbitrary detentions rose from one reported case in 2017 to 16 cases, 38% of which involved lesbians.
  • Workplace discrimination allegations fell by  26% compared to the previous year, registering a total of 28 abuses. 36% of the cases affected lesbians.
  • Community discrimination remained unchanged. 47% of which affected lesbians.

Argentina: lesbian attacked by family in front of partner and child

Yésica is a cumbia singer, an activist for the right to legal abortion and the separation of the Church of the State. She is 28 years old, a lesbian and lives with her 7 year old daughter and her partner. On June 4 she went to visit her mother in Villa Ballester. There was a strong argument between her mother and her aunt, Yésica approached to separate them and her cousin Walter Rodríguez Lazarte (17) hit her in the head with a rusty pipe of plumbing screaming “lesbian whore, lesbian shit”. She felt tingling in her head and fell to the floor. Her cousin hit her again with the pipe in his head.

Yésica es cantante de cumbia, milita activamente por el derecho al aborto legal y la separación de la Iglesia del Estado. Tiene 28 años, es lesbiana y vive con su hija de 7 años y su pareja. El 4 de junio fue a visitar a su madre en Villa Ballester. Hubo una discusión fuerte entre su madre y su tía, Yésica se acercó a separarlas y su primo Walter Rodríguez Lazarte (17) la golpeó en la cabeza con un caño oxidado de plomería al grito de “lesbiana puta, lesbiana de mierda”. Yésica sintió hormigueo en la cabeza y cayó al piso. Su primo volvió a pegarle con el caño en la cabeza.
