20 Lesbophobic Things My Male Friends Have Said to Me

by Amy Dyess

Several of my straight, gay, and bi male friends said those lesbophobic things to me. I’m butch and look very gay, which made me a visible target for sexual harassment. It’s partially why I moved from the American South, where all of this happened. I decided to share because recently the memories have been triggered. I want them out, and maybe writing about my experiences will help other lesbians.

Male friendships are tricky, no matter what a man’s orientation is. As you can see, many straight and bi male friends are really trying to hook up. Gay men project their own fears onto lesbians. Gay men have also groped me in dark, sweaty gay bars. Lesbians have to be careful around all men.

Spain: Judge remains barred over malicious prevarication against lesbian couple

Spain

The Contentious-Administrative Chamber of the Supreme Court has confirmed the decision taken at the time by the General Council of the Judiciary (CGPJ) to deny the reinstatement to active duty in the judicial career of Fernando Ferrín Calamita, the judge of Murcia who was sentenced in 2009 to ten years of special disqualification for the “malicious” delay in the procedures for adopting a minor by the wife of the biological mother of the child.

The resolution, of which the magistrate José Manuel Sieira has been a speaker, recalls that the crime of prevarication is one of the most serious that a member of the judicial career can commit  in that it breaches (both) the essence of the Judiciary and the baseline behaviour expected of those who represent it.

Moreover, it distinguishes between the crime of malicious prevarication provided for in article 446 of the Criminal Code, for which Ferrín Calamita was convicted, and that of guilty prevarication of article 447. Thus, he emphasizes that, in this case, “we are facing a crime of greater gravity”, which does the damage to the public service is undoubtedly greater.

The events date back to 2006 when a lesbian couple began the adoption process with the aim of one being recognized as the adoptive mother of the girl that her romantic partner had conceived through artificial insemination.

Australia: Lesbian elder speaks about abuse as young woman and in ageing

Malloy Rolfe (left) and Dr Catherine Barrett at the 2019 National Elder Abuse Conference .

The 84-year-old gay Adelaide woman began to speak to the National Elder Abuse Conference in Brisbane in clear and simple language.
“My name is Malloy and I’m going to share a story about what it was like to grow up as a lesbian in the 1950s,” Hazel ‘Malloy’ Rolfe said.
“Then I’m going to tell you about a recent experience of elder abuse at an aged care service provider.  Sadly, the two stories are connected.”
She moved to Australia from Middlesex in the UK as a teenager in 1948.
Ms Rolfe was sexually assaulted by her now deceased father, then her mother died nine years after arriving in Adelaide.
Ms Rolfe was later treated in Adelaide with LSD and electro-shock therapy for her sexuality.
She said growing up as a lesbian in Australia in the 1950s was “simply awful”.
“I was told that if I went back to feeling like a lesbian, God wouldn’t love me,” Ms Rolfe told delegates.
More recently, she was refused permission by a major aged-care provider to speak to women at aged-care facilities in South Australia because she was lesbian.

kimberly-page-abc7.jpg

Kimberly Page is speaking out publicly about a violent attack as police search for suspects. Page said that she and her girlfriend were out late with friends in a town on Long Island on July 7.

At around 3:30 a.m., Page and her girlfriend were alone when a group of men approached them and taunted them.

They “started saying obscene things to my girlfriend and I,” Page said. “It originated by him asking her if she wanted a real [expletive] and why is she with this [slur].” She said that they tried to ignore the men, but then the men got angry.

One of the men told Page’s girlfriend, “I’m not going to fight you, I’m going to fight her,” because Page is “a dude.”

The man slapped Page’s girlfriend and then punched Page.

U.S: Dressmaker refuses service to lesbian couple, but offers to convert them instead

wedding.png

A St. Louis couple said a wedding dress designer refused to make a garment for them, saying it goes against her faith. Tiffany Allen and Angel Lane said they reached out to the New York-based company, D. AUXILLY, through e-mail to get some information. They said the designer, Dominique Galbraith, responded with the following e-mail that said in part:

“I wouldn’t be able to make a piece for a same-sex wedding. It goes against my faith in Christ. I believe Jesus died for our sins so that we would live for him according to His Holy Word. I know you both love each other and that this feels right but I encourage you both to reconsider and see what the Lord has to say and the wonderful things He has in store for you both if you trust and obey Him.

God Bless and be with you both!

I’m available to talk and share more about Jesus if you’d like. Feel free to call me.”

Spain: Lesbian couple verbally abused by woman after she spots them ‘kissing’

Spain

A woman with a buggy has been filmed hurling a torrent of homophobic abuse at a lesbian couple after she reportedly spotted them kissing.

In the footage taken on a tube, the woman is heard calling the pair “d—-” and “c———-“.

She also refers to her own gay brother as a “f—–” and shouts: “You disgust me, I have a gay brother, but he doesn’t kiss in front of me because he respects me.”

She adds: “It disgusts me to see you kissing. If you want respect, you also have to respect me.”

When she appears to hear the couple speaking Catalan, the woman scoffs and says: “Oh, you are also Catalan!”

One of the women replies: “Oh, so you are a homophobic and a racist!”

Mexico: Lesbians, women in resistance

Love doesn't hurt hate does

Photo: Mario Jiménez Leyva

Vilma Katt Ulloa, lesbofeminist activist, argues that the fight against discrimination based on sexual preference, in Mexico was led by women. Thus, the names of lesbians such as María Castro, Nancy Cárdenas and Alma Margarita Oceguera are inscribed in the story. Over the years, the movement for the vindication of their rights was aimed at making women again invisible under the predominance of machismo and the misogyny also present within the gay community. “There is an internalized lesbophobia that is lived within those letters with which the non-heterosexual population has been characterized.”

skynews-ellie-mae-mulholland_4713338.jpg

A teenager was left bleeding and bruised after she was beaten up by two other women from her school.

Ellie-Mae Mulholland, 18, of Hull, UK, said that she confronted “one of her friends” yesterday afternoon over some money that the friend owed her.

“She had seen a couple of her friends, who are usually her friends, and one of them owed her a tenner and Ellie asked about it,” Mulholland’s sister Stevie-Leigh Ansell told Hull Live. “The lass said she never had it. Then they both beat [Ellie-Mae] black and blue.”

“Because she is gay they called her a ‘F–king lesbian, you and your girlfriend are going to get it ten times worse next time,’” Ansell said.

Update: Argentinian lesbian jailed for one year for resisting lesbophobic arrest

Mariana Gomez Rocio Girat

Kissing is not a crime, Enough of lesbian-hate and Absolution for Marian could be read on the multicoloured placards that dozens of activists held from ten in the morning in front of Criminal Court No. 26 of Buenos Aires. On the International LGBTIQ + Pride Day , they awaited the verdict in the trial against Mariana Gómez, accused of resistance to authority and minor injuries to the police who arrested her when she kissed her wife, Rocío Girat, and smoked in the lobby of a station. The festive chants that had been heard for almost two hours were transformed into a growing murmur of disbelief: Judge Marta Yungaro sentenced Gomez to one year in prison. She will not go to jail, but she must pay the costs of the trial.

U.K: Lesbian verbally harassed on Ryanair flight ‘and crew did nothing’

Laura Muldoon tweeted a photograph of a group of men she alleges called her ‘lesbo’, ‘dyke’ and ‘miserable bitch’ as she boarded her flight from Stansted to Seville, Spain, on Wednesday.

Laura, who works as the social media manager at the Museum of London, sarcastically tweeted:
‘First holiday snap!
‘Of this bunch of lads who chanted that I was a “miserable bitch”, “dyke” and “lesbo” (very well observed!) on @Ryanair flight 12.27 from Stansted to Seville today.
‘Oh yeah, flight crew did nothing.’

Australia: Matilda’s captain Sam Kerr exposes lesbophobic trolls

Photo source: Sam Kerr’s Instagram (@samkerr1)

To understand the Matildas as subordinate to a coach is to misread the room; the Australian national women’s football team has always been a player-led environment. They have continued to express, to some deaf ears, they were happy under Milicic and buying into his game plan.
But the morning after their ‘miracle in Montpellier’, Kerr took aim at a new class of hater; the trolls and the homophobes.
The 25-year-old screen-captured one example of abuse, Tweeting it alongside a message: “For people getting upset about there being ‘no’ haters”.

U.K: Bus driver called lesbian cyclist a ‘f**king d*ke’

img_9389

30-year-old Natalie Lewendon was riding her bicycle home from work in Bristol on Tuesday (11 June) just after 4pm.

As she was heading east on Church road through Lawrence Hill, the traffic slowed down and ‘without warning’, the car she was cycling alongside swung into her path, causing her to brake suddenly.

‘I began to tell the driver off for not looking,’ Lewendon exclusively told Gay Star News. ‘She completely owned that it was her fault and was instantly apologizing to me through the window.’

However, a First Bus bus driver approaching from the opposite direction stopped his bus — holding up traffic — to yell at Lewendon for being in the wrong.

‘I told him that he had no idea what he was talking about and to keep driving,’ Lewendon explained. ‘He continued, leaning out of his window, to berate me at full volume, telling me I was wrong.’

At this point, Lewendon put her bike on the pavement ground and approached the vehicle to get the bus driver’s name and badge number.

‘He continued to abuse me and gave me that “gab gab gab” hand gesture and then finally drove away,’ she said. ‘But not before leering at me and calling me a “fucking dyke”.

‘He dropped his voice while he did it. He knew it was wrong. Lots of people had stopped to watch,’ she said.

I was a lesbian tomboy allowed to be female; I fear young girls today no longer have that choice

by Tonje Gjevjon
for feministcurrent.com

8.Tonje-16-year-72-dpi-JPEG.jpeg

The shame of belonging to a group of so-called “manly” women was widespread and self-loathing not uncommon. There is no shortage of people who ridicule lesbians’ appearances, and who think lesbians shouldn’t be so “lesbian.”

What this really means is that these people think lesbians should conform to stereotypical gender roles: be more feminine, wear makeup, dress and move like “real women.” These attitudes haven’t changed significantly in the last 30-40 years. Even some lesbian or bisexual women express annoyance with the “masculine” lesbians. It’s as if they think masculine lesbians shame lesbians as a whole.

Today, many young lesbians can’t bring themselves to call themselves lesbians, because they associate being lesbian with something ugly and shameful — a failed and unwomanly woman.

Luleki Sizwe Womyn’s Project: Fighting for Lesbian Safety in South Africa

lulekisizwe-ndumie-funda-2019-06-11-gcn01_z.jpg

In 2006, South Africa became the fifth country in the world to legalize same-sex marriage. So the country must be naturally progressive about LGBTQ equality, right?

The reality is that homophobia, brutal hate crimes, “corrective rape,” and other anti-LGBTQ violence persist, with profoundly heartbreaking effects. And it makes the fight for basic safety in the queer community risky and incredibly difficult.

But over the past decade, one organization has risen to the challenge. Luleki Sizwe Womyn’s Project (luleki-sizwe.com) is a non-profit devoted to delivering help and support to lesbians who are victims of homophobic attacks and rape across 10 South African township communities.

Funda of course welcomes donations — but the group has long encountered problems collecting international non-profit funds through its PayPal account. So, at present, the alternate donation method is via direct bank transfer, which this writer successfully did online in just a few minutes.

The organization’s business transaction account details are: Luleki Sizwe Womyn’s Project; Standard Bank South Africa, Cape Town; account number 071362940; branch code 024909; SWIFT code SBZAZAJJ. The Luleki Sizwe Womyn’s Project can be contacted at 071-171-9654 and info@luleki-sizwe.com. These details are also listed at luleki-sizwe.com/donate.

U.S: Lesbian Flag Excluded From The Sims

512px-Lesbian_pride_labrys_flag.svg.png

Much like many other companies, Electronic Arts Inc joined in on the celebration of Pride month, which is held each June to honor the Stonewall riots of 1969. They did this by adding a handful of flags and other Pride gear to The Sims 4 that players could use in-game to celebrate. While the developers have seemingly always been inclusive for members of the LGBTQ+ communities, they definitely slipped up with the recently revealed addition as out of the 17 flags they included, they left out the lesbian flag.
