Ireland: Donegal lesbian IVF mum is denied Irish passport for her son as 1956 law states she’s not the little tot’s mother

Holly, left, and Katie with newborn Griffin

Little Griffin was then born in August after the newlywed couple’s third IVF attempt was successful.

But only Holly, 31, was marked as his mum on the birth cert — with Katie, 34, from Gweedore, Co Donegal, put as a generic “parent”.

However, Irish laws from 1956 define a parent as only a child’s “mother” or “father” and the Passport Office refused Katie’s application for 11-week-old Griffin.

Canada: Lesbian seniors talk about isolation, safe housing concerns at Winnipeg summit

Roberta Bishop Winnipeg

Roberta Bishop says more talk with health-care providers is needed to ensure LGBT seniors have better experiences in personal care homes, for example. (Trevor Brine/CBC)

Bishop recalled the story of a woman who lost her spouse of 25 years.

The woman didn’t tell her friends in her knitting group that her partner was a female until the shooting at Pulse nightclub happened in Orlando in 2016, Bishop said.

“There’s an assumption that if you get old and you’re widowed, then you’ve lost a man,” Bishop said, explaining why the woman didn’t reveal her partner’s identity sooner.

SHE FLED PERSECUTION FOR BEING LESBIAN. HOSTILE QUESTIONING AT U.S. BORDER MADE HER AFRAID TO TELL THE TRUTH.

SITTING IN AN interrogation room at Dulles International Airport, Ella was paralyzed with fear. Terrified by the uniformed immigration officials lobbing questions at her, the 23-year-old Ugandan woman could think of only one thing: “I can’t go home.”

One year earlier, Ella had been caught in her village in bed with her female partner. Rounded up and taken out into the streets, she and her partner were forced to march naked through the village while being taunted, jeered at, and burned with searing paraffin oil. Police intervened to stop the mob from killing the women, but they arrested both Ella and her partner on charges of immorality. She was beaten in police custody.

Horrific abuse hurled at lesbian and gay Aussies during postal survey

A 23-year-old Sydneysider told Daily Mail Australia that her girlfriend has been unable to leave the house for fear of being harassed or abused again.

‘A couple of years ago, she was beaten severely enough to go into a coma because she kissed her [same-sex] partner goodbye in public,’ the woman said.

‘Despite this, she’s had mail in her letterbox telling her that she’s wrong and an abomination, and it we’ve also had our front door vandalised (graffiti with ‘die f*gs’) because we chalked a rainbow on our front wall.’It’s been horrible for her mental health; to top it off, because she hasn’t been able to make it into work, she recently lost her job.’

Daughter of homophobic executive of Focus of the Family on why she came out as lesbian

A daughter of one of the most virulently homophobic voices in the United States has come out as a lesbian.

Amber Cantorna has chosen to come out even though her father helps to lead Focus on the Family – an extremely homophobic faith organization.  It has donated hundreds of thousands of dollars to fight against marriage equality, advocated for dangerous ‘gay cure’ therapy, and fought against same-sex parents having adoption rights.

And when she came out to friends and family, she was immediately rejected by her family and was excommunicated from her church.

Fresno, CA student pelted with full juice boxes for being lesbian

Logann Pruneda, a student at Bullard High, says she was pelted with full juice boxes at school on Monday for being gay. It was her 16th birthday.

The Fresno Unified sophomore said that after a fire drill outside the school, she was hit with three boxes of apple juice from behind, leaving abrasions on her neck and back.

She heard a male call her “a faggot, a queer, a lesbo” during the attack, but did not see who did it, and did not recognize the voice.

“They were pretty hard throws,” she said. “All I heard was them calling me really mean names that involved my sexuality.”

But the taxi driver was eavesdropping. And when the woman told her friend she had run away, he locked the car doors and drove her back home, fearing potential consequences for his role in her planned escape.

The 22-year-old woman was a lesbian who claimed that her relatives had beaten and threatened her with death after learning of her sexual orientation. Within a week of the fateful taxi ride, she was dead.

On why they chose to follow only lesbian couples

“The reason we are focusing on lesbians is that in the Birmingham area they’ve been previously invisible,” Sherer says. “And partly that may be because of the AIDS crisis and the attention that was placed on what was going on in in the 80s in Birmingham.”
