Italy: lesbian couple threatened

14 January 2022

Outraged because two young girls publicly were affectionate on the bus, a seventy-year-old threatened them with a knife and repeatedly insulted them by shouting “ugly lesbians, either stop it or I’ll put a knife in your belly”.

The serious instance of homophobia occured the other evening on the Amt bus number 13 from Corso Saffi to the terminus of via Turati, in Caricamento. At this point, thanks to both to passengers reporting the situation to the Police emergency number, to the Amt operations center, the woman was intercepted by a police car patrol.

The seventy-year-old, who already possessed a small criminal record, was reported on foot, but got away with a simple report for threats aggravated by the use of the knife (which was later found in the hands of an acquaintance, who was reported for aiding and abetting).

Colombia: Taxi driver beats lesbian

On June 1, a new case of intolerance was reported in Bogotá. According to the young woman’s account, on May 29 she took a taxi in Chapinero, to go to the Las Brisas neighborhood, in the town of San Cristóbal.

According to her account for W Radio, when they reached their destination the taxi driver charged her $ 40,000 for the ride, a price that seemed excessive.

She said that after appealing the price, the taxi driver closed the door, looked at her and asked if she was a lesbian, to which the woman replied that she was, but “that it had nothing to do with it.”

Onhearing that, according to the story by Yeimy Paola Triana, the man took a crossbrace and began to beat her until he smashed her head and broke her nose.

US: ACLU seeks transport staff training over punishment of lesbian teen

A civil rights group is threatening to sue a Kansas school district if it doesn’t train employees about LGBTQ rights in response to an eighth-grade student being suspended from riding a school bus after saying, “I’m a lesbian.”…

The ACLU is representing the student, Izzy Dieker, who graduated from eighth grade and plans to attend the district’s high school this fall. She was suspended from her bus for two days in January but didn’t ride again for two weeks because she felt humiliated, said Sharon Brett, the group’s legal director.

A Kansas Association of School Boards investigation found that the bus driver and the principal of Dieker’s K-8 school sexually harassed her, violating federal civil rights regulations and district policies.

US: 13-year-old banned from school bus after saying she’s lesbian to friends

On her way to school, eighth-grader Izzy Dieker was overheard saying to another student on the school bus, “I’m a lesbian.”

For that, she earned a referral from the bus driver and was banned from riding the bus by the principal, citing her “inappropriate language.”

“Once I got home, my dad told me he got a call from the school that I was kicked off for saying ‘I’m a lesbian’,” Dieker said. Now, her parents are frustrated, and the Americus, Kansas school district isn’t providing answers.

“She’s 13 years old and these are adults acting like this towards her,” her mother, Tasha Cooper, said in an interview with local KSNT News. “We’ve had talks about other students calling her names and I expect that because they’re repeating what their parents say. But for the staff, the people that I trust her with, I was angry.”

Dieker’s parents say that they were also told that Dieker refused to listen to the bus driver’s orders, which they interpret was her refusal to stop using the word “lesbian.”

Peru: security guard stops lesbians kissing on public transport

Peru Metro Guard

A citizen denounced a security guard from the Lima Metro because she and her partner were forbidden to kiss, both experiencing the lesbophobia at Central Station. When they kissed the guard approached them to tell them that they could not show affection.
The victim began to record the incident and asked which Metro rule prohibits demonstrations of affection in its vicinity. “It’s a public place and you can’t be kissing in a public place,” the man replied.

After she asked him where it says she couldn’t kiss her girlfriend, the guard told her to “set the example.” “Because there are children here. There is a small child. No one says  don’t feel love and romance, but there are places where you can and there are other places where you can’t show it,” he said.

Through a statement, the Municipality of Lima said they reject all types of discrimination and have therefore initiated a thorough investigation to establish responsibilities and any corresponding sanctions.

They said that security guards, counsellors and other personnel who have direct contact with the public at the stations are constantly trained to provide adequate care.

“The Lima municipality deeply regrets this incident and reiterates its commitment to continue working for equality and to sanction any discriminatory practice or act,” they stated.
