The two lesbian activists told Ouest-France that they attended a LMPT rally on January 9 in Angers, western France. The two decided to counter-demonstrate with banners that read “Lesbians can be mothers without a father” and “It takes more than heterosexuality to be a good father.”
They said that two men, who appeared to be with PMTCT, blocked them on the street. The men asked where the women were going. When the women said they were going to the demonstration, the men became violent.
People passing by didn’t even react.
“While we were running, one of them pushed us with his shoulders,” said one of the women. “They told us they would not let us pass.”
“He pushed me and took the poster from me,” said the other woman. “I raised my arm to try to get it back and he pushed me violently. Adèle started screaming that they were attacking two women in the middle of the street, but the people who passed did not even react.”
One of the women said that, at that moment, one of the men “tore the poster, grabbed my left arm and held me with his arm behind his back. Then I heard it break.”
